3 reasons to order brain friendly food for your delegates…

Posted on 06 June 2013

There’s been a lot of debate regarding the link between our brains and food. The food we eat influences our brain.  Refined sugars give an energy boost but after a short while they cause drowsiness, proteins keep us active longer and the right mix of carbs (sugars), protein and fat benefits our health; and it’s not just us saying that. It’s science!

Now, we tend to take science very seriously here @thestudio and ever since we opened our first venue in Birmingham we’ve made sure that we build our menus with everything that we need in order to keep our brains working for an entire day meeting.

If we try to make the healthiest food choices for our selves we find it normal to make the same choices for our guests. Here are just 3 reasons for which we decided to do that…

1. The ability to concentrate and focus comes from the adequate, steady supply of energy – in the form of glucose (sugar) in our blood to the brain. In other words start your day with a high energy breakfast that contains cereal, yoghurt and fruit. We, obviously, hope that the trainer or speaker also has an interesting and active agenda for the day.

2. Snacking has been said to contribute to maintaining the balance of energy levels. That is not to say you can run out to the shop and buy yourself a big packet of crisps. Go nuts! Yes, choose nuts that are packed with protein, fibre and essential fats and in addition to contributing to your energy levels they do wonders for your heart and brain. Walnuts help improve working memory by 19% according to a Spanish study.

3. Don’t over do it. Whatever you eat don’t eat to much of it and try to eat light dishes.
“You want to create a chemical called tyrosine that helps us to be alert and stimulates the brain. You get it through seafood, chicken and lean meats – though not turkey. You need to have fresh salads, vegetables and whole grain rolls.” says psychologist Andrea Sullivan
