thestudio are moving up in the world! Up north to be precise, further afield then Manchester, we have now set up camp in Leeds!

What is this place you speak of?!

If you were given a map of the UK, would you be able to point out a City called Loidis? It’s a bit of a trick question but if you know where Loiners come from, you’d know we’re talking about Leeds! In 731, our new place of settlement was formerly known as Loidis which then became (more recognisably) Ledes. Sooner or later it unscrambled to make the name we know it as today.

Silver Screen Stardom…

Did you know the first moving picture was shot in Leeds? We didn’t either! Apparently in 1888, French inventor Louise Le Prince recorded scenes in Roundhay Garden and of Leeds Bridge. From silver screens to going for gold, Roundhay Park holds the top spot on Tripadvisor’s top 30 things to do in Leeds list.

Kitchen Disasters…

What we have learnt so far through our culinary research is that a lot of delicious treats are rather stumbled upon rather than intended, and Jelly Tots are no exception! In his attempts to synthesise instant setting powdered jelly, Scientist Brian Boffey accidentally created these little delights.

Fool of a took…

If you love Lord of the Rings, you’ll have definitely remembered this one liner! But what has the Fellowship of the Ring got to do with Leeds you might wonder? Well low & behold JRR Tolkien lectured at Leeds University! Don’t believe us? Feel free to check out Gandalf’s original sword in the Royal Armouries.

Sight for sore eyes…

If you fancy a bit of sightseeing and into programmes like Holby City or Dexter, then Thackray Medical Museum might be of interest to you! If the weather holds up, why not check out Kirkstall Abbey Hall? It’s the ruins of a 12th century monastery, how very Indiana Jones of you!

With this extra Leeds knowledge aren’t you enticed to meet the city? What’s better than meeting a familiar face here @studiovenues #Leeds
